Adding files to your web site

These pages guide you through adding a file such as a PDF, Word document, or Excel spreadsheet to your Soothed web site.

Note that for the best user experience you should avoid using downloadable files for your content unless you have a good reason for doing so. If you are going to upload files, then PDF is the preferred format for the web.

All pages will allow you to embed a link to a file within an area of text. In addition, some pages may have dedicated standalone files that you can control. Both the embedded and dedicated files use the file manager for uploading and selecting a file.

Help pages in this section

  • File manager - for uploading and selecting files. The file manager is used for both standalone and embedded files.
  • Embedding a file - shows you how to add a link to an uploaded file within an area of text so that the user can download and view it on their computer.
  • Add a standalone file - shows you how to choose a file for a dedicated area within a page. (Not all pages have this feature.)

Troubleshooting

Q. I can't access the file manager. What's wrong?

Some popup blockers (e.g. google toolbar) disallow access to the image manager and file manager. If you're running a popup blocker, you might need to disable it temporarily, or add an exception for your own domain.
